Wyze Labs, a company based in Kirkland, Washington, is launching a new AI video search feature for customers on its Cam Unlimited plan. This feature allows users to search for specific moments in their security-camera videos using text queries. The company’s CEO, Yun Zhang, says users can search for granular details such as objects like trash cans or garden tools, attributes like colors and shapes, or specific queries such as “show me a delivery man with red roses” or “show me my cat in the backyard.”

Amazon’s Ring business, one of Wyze’s biggest competitors, is also working on its own AI-powered video search feature. Wyze has been developing AI integrations for its products since 2019 and claims that its video search feature, running on a proprietary vision language model designed specifically for Wyze camera data, is two to three times faster than conventional inference engines. Customers on the Cam Unlimited plan can start using the AI video search feature as of Wednesday, according to the company.

Following incidents in which some customers were able to access live videos from other users’ cameras temporarily, Wyze has introduced new cloud and data security measures. As a result, the New York Times’ Wirecutter suspended its recommendations of the company’s products. Wyze was founded in 2017 by three Amazon veterans and raised $110 million in 2021. It now offers over 70 different smart-home devices, expanding from its original focus on security cameras.

The new AI video search feature is said to work with a wide variety of queries, providing users with detailed and relevant search results. This feature showcases the company’s commitment to incorporating advanced technology into its products to enhance the user experience. Wyze’s approach to video search, utilizing a proprietary vision language model, is aimed at improving search speed and accuracy for its customers.

As part of its efforts to maintain user privacy and security, Wyze has taken significant steps to address previous incidents of unauthorized access to live camera feeds. By implementing new cloud and data security protocols, the company aims to ensure that users’ personal information and video footage remain secure and private. These measures are essential for building and maintaining trust among customers in the increasingly competitive smart-home device market.

With the introduction of the AI video search feature and ongoing investments in AI technology, Wyze continues to innovate in the smart-home device market. By leveraging artificial intelligence to enable users to search for specific moments in their security-camera videos, the company is enhancing the functionality and usability of its products. As Wyze expands its product offerings and strengthens its data security measures, it remains focused on delivering high-quality, advanced smart-home solutions to its customers.
