An Edmonton mother, Lori Groves, is hoping to fulfill her late son Connor Groves’ last wish by getting a painting inspired by music to the popstar P!nk. Connor, who battled cancer, expressed himself through artwork that was inspired by music, and painting became a significant outlet for him. Along with his twin brother Zach, who also used art as a form of expression, Connor found solace and creativity in creating paintings that reflected the emotions and feelings evoked by music. Despite being diagnosed with Fragile X syndrome and autism at a young age and facing discouragement from others, the brothers defied expectations and found a way to express themselves through art.

Connor’s favorite artist, P!nk, played a significant role in his life. Over the four years he became a fan, her music, especially songs like “When I Get There” and “Perfect,” inspired and comforted him during his battle with cancer. Painting to her music became a therapeutic and meaningful way for Connor to cope with his illness and express his emotions. His connection to P!nk’s music, particularly the song “Perfect,” made him feel understood and accepted, as he found solace in the message that nobody is perfect and that everyone deserves love regardless of imperfections.

Connor had hoped to give the painting to P!nk when she performed in Edmonton on August 31st. Tragically, on August 5th, while listening to “Perfect,” Connor passed away. His last wish was to present the painting to his idol, acknowledging the impact her music had on his life and expressing his gratitude for her artistry. His family is now determined to keep Connor’s dream alive by finding a way to share his artwork with P!nk, as they believe it would have brought him immense joy and fulfillment to have been able to express his gratitude and admiration for her in person.

Lori Groves fondly remembers the days filled with art that brought her son Connor so much joy. Despite facing numerous challenges due to his health condition, Connor always had a smile on his face and a joke to share. Through their shared love for art, Connor and his brother Zach found a way to communicate and express themselves, defying the initial prognosis that they would never amount to anything in life. Music played a central role in their art, with each painting reflecting the emotions and feelings evoked by different songs. The creativity and expression they found through art helped them navigate through difficult times and connect with each other on a deeper level.

As Lori reflects on Connor’s passion for art and his unwavering admiration for P!nk, she is determined to fulfill his last wish and ensure that his artwork reaches its intended recipient. She believes that sharing Connor’s art with P!nk would not only honor his memory but also serve as a testament to the impact artists can have on their fans’ lives. Through their shared love for music and art, Connor and P!nk formed a unique connection that transcended the physical limitations of illness, inspiring hope, resilience, and creativity. Lori’s hope is that by sharing Connor’s story and artwork with P!nk, she can pay tribute to her son’s legacy and the importance of art in fostering connection, understanding, and healing.
