Park’N Fly, a popular airport parking service, recently announced that approximately 1 million customer files were accessed in a data breach last month. The breach occurred when a third party accessed the company’s network through unauthorized remote VPN access between July 11 and July 13. The compromised information may have included names, email and mail addresses, as well as Aeroplan and CAA numbers. However, Park’N Fly assured customers that no financial information, passwords, or credit card payment information were stored on their servers.

The company notified customers of the breach via email on August 1, more than three weeks after the incident was discovered. Park’N Fly stated that they have been diligently investigating the breach with the help of outside experts. Within five days, their platforms were fully restored, and they have since increased their cybersecurity measures to prevent further breaches. Park’N Fly’s CEO, Carlo Marrello, emphasized that they are taking all necessary steps to safeguard customer information and reassure customers and partners of their commitment to data security.

This incident highlights the prevalence of data breaches and raises concerns about the prevention and notification processes in place. Just last month, the privacy commissioner in Canada launched an investigation into Ticketmaster after a massive data breach exposed the personal information of over 500 million customers worldwide, including Canadians. Hackers stole names, addresses, phone numbers, and credit card details of Ticketmaster customers and attempted to sell the data on the dark web. However, it took a month and a half for Ticketmaster to inform the public of the breach.

Park’N Fly has stated that they are committed to transparency and will prioritize the integrity of their systems as they address the situation. The company’s response to the breach, including notifying customers and improving cybersecurity measures, reflects their dedication to protecting customer information. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of cybersecurity and the ongoing efforts needed to prevent and respond to data breaches effectively. Customers are urged to be vigilant with their personal information and to take precautions to safeguard their data in an increasingly digitized world.
