Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary Pictures are celebrating the successful opening weekend of their MonsterVerse sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The film has already raked in $40 million worldwide in early receipts and is expected to hit $175 million over the Easter weekend, with potential to surpass $200 million as ticket sales continue to pour in. Thursday previews and Friday box office numbers exceeded expectations, with $37 million domestic and nearly $50 million international by Friday.

China is projected to bring in around $40 million for the weekend, with an additional $60-70 million from other international markets. The film could potentially reach $100 million total from foreign markets. The North American box office exceeded earlier tracking estimates, with projections of around $75 million. Worst-case scenario projections still fall within the impressive $150 million range, while on the high end, the film could surpass $190 million by the end of the weekend.

As of Saturday afternoon, Godzilla x Kong had already grossed nearly $90 million globally, with additional ticket sales expected to come in from North America and China. The film is on track to possibly reach $200 million by the end of the holiday weekend. Despite more modest predictions, the film is expected to land around $185 million globally. The success of Godzilla x Kong adds to the recent box office wins for Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary Pictures, following the strong performance of Dune: Part Two earlier in the year.

In the midst of Godzilla x Kong’s box office domination, other holdovers like Dune: Part Two and Kung Fu Panda 4 are also performing well, with projections of $10-11 million each for the weekend. Dune: Part Two is nearing a $605-610 million worldwide cume, while Kung Fu Panda 4 is expected to hit around $310-315 million. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is projected to see a significant drop of around 70% and may barely cross the $100 million threshold, securing a second-place finish for the weekend.

With an opening weekend exceeding $150 million and positive audience feedback, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is expected to achieve a 3x final multiplier, potentially reaching a worldwide total of $450-555 million by the end of its theatrical run. The film’s modest budget of $135 million sets it up for significant profit, with a potential to become the highest-grossing film in the MonsterVerse series. As word of mouth spreads and audience interest remains high, Godzilla x Kong has proven to be a box office powerhouse that is worthy of the audiences’ investment.
