The latest Fox News poll shows former President Donald Trump holding a one-point lead over Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris. Conducted from August 9 to August 12 with a sample size of 1,105 registered voters, the survey shows Trump at 50 percent and Harris at 49 percent, well within the margin of error. This represents a significant shift from July, where Harris led Trump by two percentage points in national polls before dropping out of the race following a lackluster debate performance.

In a recent Ipsos survey taken from July 31 to August 7, Harris led Trump by two percentage points among registered voters in key swing states. This result is also within the margin of error and puts Harris in a “statistical dead heat” with Trump. Trump’s strongest support comes from men, white men without a college degree, white evangelical Christians, and rural voters. On the other hand, Harris performs well among women, Black voters, college graduates, and individuals under the age of 30. Harris also leads Trump in union households by 10 percent, while Trump holds a 22 percent lead among voters who have served in the military.

When it comes to likability, Harris edges out Trump 48 percent to 47 percent. In the question about likability of the vice presidential candidates, Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz leads Republican Ohio Senator JD Vance by three percentage points. Florida political pollster Kevin Wagner believes that the race reflects the close division in American politics, with the Democratic base rallying around Harris. He predicts a tight election that will be centered around turnout rather than persuasion.

Trump and Harris have engaged in a war of words in recent weeks, with Trump facing criticism for mispronouncing and misspelling Harris’s name and questioning her intelligence. Harris has called out Trump for being “low energy” on the campaign trail and mocked the size of his rallies. She has also labeled the Trump-Vance ticket as “weird.” With the election expected to be closely contested and reliant on turnout, both candidates are working to solidify their bases and appeal to swing voters. The back-and-forth exchanges between Trump and Harris suggest a heated battle for support in the run-up to the election.
