Scheduled speakers for the event include U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, all of whom are reportedly being considered as potential running mates for Harris. The event will also feature Mitch Landrieu, co-chair of Harris’ campaign, and actors Mark Hamill, Mark Ruffalo, Misha Collins, and Josh Gad. Harris recently became the Democratic Party’s de facto nominee after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 election contest and endorsed Harris as the party’s nominee. Harris, if elected, would be the first woman and only the second person of color to be elected president of the United States.
The vice president’s father is a Black man from Jamaica, and her mother is from India, making her a historic candidate. In contrast, former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, are both white. The organizers of “White Dudes for Harris” acknowledged the importance of addressing issues such as toxic entitlement and the role that white men have played in the nation’s history, both positive and negative.
