More than 90,000 people have signed up for Monday night’s “White Dudes for Harris” Zoom fundraising and organizing rally, which will feature comments from several potential Democratic running mates for Vice President Kamala Harris. The response exceeded the initial target set by organizers, with nine times the number of sign-ups initially expected for the event. This call is the male counterpart to a previous “White Women: Answer the Call” Zoom fundraising meeting, which drew more than 160,000 women to support Harris. Organizers of “White Dudes for Harris” expressed their commitment to supporting Harris and having tough but fair conversations to address important issues.

Scheduled speakers for the event include U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, all of whom are reportedly being considered as potential running mates for Harris. The event will also feature Mitch Landrieu, co-chair of Harris’ campaign, and actors Mark Hamill, Mark Ruffalo, Misha Collins, and Josh Gad. Harris recently became the Democratic Party’s de facto nominee after President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 election contest and endorsed Harris as the party’s nominee. Harris, if elected, would be the first woman and only the second person of color to be elected president of the United States.

The vice president’s father is a Black man from Jamaica, and her mother is from India, making her a historic candidate. In contrast, former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, are both white. The organizers of “White Dudes for Harris” acknowledged the importance of addressing issues such as toxic entitlement and the role that white men have played in the nation’s history, both positive and negative. They emphasized the need for honesty and openness in supporting Harris and rejecting the fear and divisiveness promoted by MAGA.

The event aims to support Harris in making history and changing minds, while fostering conversations among white men to address important issues. The organizers highlighted the impact of the current crisis on the nation and the need for white men to confront the culture of toxic entitlement exemplified by figures like Donald Trump. They emphasized the importance of not letting fear define who they are or the country, and recognized the challenges posed by this moment in history. By coming together to support Harris and engage in meaningful dialogue, white men can play a role in shaping a positive future for the country.

The “White Dudes for Harris” event reflects a growing wave of support for Harris and a recognition of the need for inclusivity and diversity in leadership. As Harris continues her campaign to become the first woman president and the second person of color to hold the office, events like these provide a platform for allies to come together, have important conversations, and demonstrate their commitment to progress and positive change. By acknowledging their role in history and standing up in support of Harris, white men can contribute to a more inclusive and equitable future for the United States.
