Susan Smith, convicted of the murder of her two young sons in 1994, has been carrying on romantic and sexual relationships with multiple men from behind bars for the past three years. One of her suitors, who claimed to have fallen in love with her, cut off contact after feeling like she was taking advantage of him. The man, who is in his late 50s, said Smith had professed her love to him while continuing similar conversations with other men, leaving him feeling duped and used by her, as she always wanted something from him.

The retiree from South Carolina, who spent over 18 months talking to Smith, decided to end all contact last November after finding out that she was engaging with other men. Smith has kept active in her jailhouse communications, messaging friends and suitors multiple times a day and having recorded phone conversations. She has been incarcerated at Leath Correctional Institution in Greenwood, SC for more than two decades and is up for parole later this year, believing that she deserves to be released.

In 1994, Smith let her car roll into a lake with her two sons, 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alexander, still strapped into their car seats, resulting in their drowning. Initially lying to the police about a black man kidnapping her kids, Smith later confessed to the murders. She was convicted of murder and given a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years, sparing her from the death penalty. Her first parole hearing is scheduled for November 4, and her suitors have been promising her money, cars, and a place to live, despite Smith claiming she never asked for anything.

The man who cut off contact with Smith after feeling used by her revealed that she was not faithful to him and was talking to other men at the same time. He expressed his doubts about whether Smith truly loved him, as she would drop hints about things she wanted and happily accept any gifts he gave her, but he does not believe she is capable of loving anybody but herself. Smith’s jailhouse activities include conversations and messages with multiple men, as reviewed and verified by The Post, leading to the man’s decision to end all contact with her.

Smith’s story garnered national attention in 1994 as she and her then-husband pleaded for the safe return of their missing sons, only for Smith to confess to their murders a week later. The motive for the killings was attributed to her affair with a wealthy man who did not want children, leading Smith to drown her sons in the lake. Despite serving over 20 years in prison, Smith is hopeful for parole and has suitors offering her support, gifts, and housing in anticipation of her potential release. The dynamics of Smith’s relationships from prison reveal a darker side, with her suitors feeling manipulated and used by her, despite her claims of love and devotion towards them.
