Chloe Hurst, a graphic designer from Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada, has spent thousands of dollars transforming her backyard into a gothic-style outdoor space. She is obsessed with the color black and has always dreamed of creating a black nursery in her backyard since she was a little girl. Growing up, Hurst helped her mother plant colorful flowers in their home garden, but she always wanted to plant black flowers in her own garden. Today, her outdoor space features black petunias, lilies, tulips, and mondo grass.

Over the past six years, Hurst has spent approximately $6,000 making her backyard “goth.” She has a variety of dark shrubs, sweet potato vines, perennials, and other dark plants in her garden to create a mysterious and weird atmosphere. Hurst finds inspiration in shows like “The Addams Family” and “Dark Shadows,” and has always enjoyed the darker things in life. Despite her parents’ efforts to dress her in bright colors, Hurst has always preferred wearing black and has immersed herself in goth culture since her teens.

Hurst’s husband, Jason, who is a contractor, lives with her in their semi-detached bungalow. While Hurst has filled the interior of their home with bone décor, different shades of black, and moody wallpaper, she hopes to eventually transform their living space into a haunted, Victorian-style home. Despite her love for black and gothic aesthetics, Hurst’s husband does not share the same enthusiasm for the dark décor, as he would prefer brighter colors in their home. However, Hurst finds joy in her dark, moody garden and considers it a reflection of herself and her interests.

With more than 218,000 Instagram followers, Hurst has shared her “goth garden” journey with those interested in her unique outdoor space. She has spent roughly $1,000 each year on her garden, sourcing her plants from local nurseries to create her dream goth garden. Hurst’s goal is to make her backyard a special and mysterious place that brings her joy despite its dark aesthetic. Her dedication to creating a gothic outdoor space reflects her lifelong love for all things dark and moody.

Hurst’s commitment to her gothic backyard and dark interior décor showcases her passion for creating a unique and mysterious atmosphere. Despite the unconventional nature of her design choices, Hurst finds joy in her gothic garden and is proud of her black-themed outdoor space. With her eye-catching and distinctive garden, Hurst has captured the attention of many on social media and has shared her goth-inspired lifestyle with a larger audience. Her dedication to her gothic aesthetic and love for all things dark and moody shines through in her meticulously designed outdoor space.
