Former Gladiators star Diamond, also known as Livi Sheldon, is set to play for the World XI in the upcoming Soccer Aid for UNICEF charity match on Sunday. The 30-year-old midfielder turned body-builder is returning to the soccer field to raise funds for UNICEF alongside other celebrities and former players such as Usain Bolt, Alessandro del Piero, and Roberto Carlos. The annual event has raised over $115 million for UNICEF UK through ticket sales and public donations since it was created in 2006 by Robbie Williams and Jonathan Wilkes.

Sheldon, who previously played for various teams in Worcester, is excited to return to the sport she loves and hopes to inspire young girls to pursue their passion for soccer. She acknowledges that the opportunities for female footballers have increased significantly, especially after the success of the England Women’s Euro win in 2022. Sheldon reflects on her own journey and admits that she would have loved to be a professional footballer if she had the same opportunities available today, such as development squads for young girls in Worcester City.

Standing at six feet tall, Sheldon would have been a unique presence in the Women’s Super League if she had pursued a professional football career. She embraces her height and sees it as an advantage, especially when playing as a Gladiator. Sheldon hopes to inspire young girls who are taller to embrace their height and be proud of who they are. She understands the importance of sport in building confidence and resilience, as it was a source of refuge for her during tough times of being bullied in school.

After taking a break from sports, Sheldon discovered her love for body-building and competed in the British “Toned Figure” competition. She found solace and empowerment in weight training, where she could control and shape her physique according to her desires. Sheldon’s journey from football to body-building has now come full circle as she prepares to play in Soccer Aid and meet her childhood hero, former England international Karen Carney. She is grateful for the opportunity to raise funds for UNICEF and support children in need around the world.

The money raised from this year’s Soccer Aid for UNICEF match will help UNICEF protect children from disease, malnutrition, and provide vaccines for childhood illnesses. The donations will also aid in responding to crises in Gaza, Sudan, and Ukraine, to ensure that children have access to education and basic necessities. Thanks to the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, every donation will be doubled up to £4 million ($5 million). Viewers are encouraged to tune in and donate during the live show for a chance to receive a special call back from a surprise celebrity guest as part of the “Appreciation Station”.

As someone who understands the impact of sport on personal growth and resilience, Sheldon emphasizes the importance of providing all children with a safe place to play sports. She encourages everyone to support the cause and make donations to help UNICEF continue its vital work in protecting and supporting children worldwide. Through Soccer Aid for UNICEF, Sheldon hopes to inspire others to pursue their passions and make a positive impact on the lives of young people in need.
