In 2024, experts predict that new car prices will continue to fall, with manufacturer incentives averaging nearly $2,800 in recent months. According to Kelley Blue Book, prices were down 5.4% from their peak in December 2022. It’s a good time for consumers to consider purchasing a new vehicle, but there are some SUVs and crossovers that may not be worth the investment.

One such vehicle to be cautious of is the Ford Escape. While it is affordably priced, it falls short compared to competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5 in terms of performance, fuel efficiency, and cargo space. The Ford Escape may not offer as much value for the money as these other options, according to experts at AutoEvolution.

Another SUV to approach with caution is the Acura RDX. While it is a luxury compact SUV, it may not measure up to competitors like the BMW X3, which offers better performance, build quality, technology, safety features, and connectivity. The Acura RDX is priced similarly to the BMW X3 but may not provide the same level of overall satisfaction for buyers.

The Ford Edge is another SUV that may not be the best choice for consumers in the mid-size SUV market. Reviews have criticized it for being outdated with mediocre fuel efficiency. Options like the Kia Telluride or Hyundai Palisade offer more value for a similar price, with additional features such as flexible third-row seating.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the priciest SUV on the list, with prices ranging from $92,540 to $113,290 or more. For that price range, consumers may want to consider a Range Rover, which also offers luxury and prestige and is available as a plug-in hybrid. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer may not offer the same level of luxury for its high price tag.

When considering purchasing an SUV in 2024, it’s important for consumers to research and test-drive multiple options to find a vehicle that meets their needs and budget. There are SUVs available at every price point that offer good value, but there are also models that may not deliver what consumers expect for the money. By reading reviews, seeking recommendations from friends, and test-driving different vehicles, consumers can make an informed decision when purchasing a new SUV.
