There are moments in life that are so unfortunate or awkward that they make us cringe. Many people have captured these moments in photos, resulting in a compilation of some truly unfortunate situations. From teachers with unfortunate names, to misspelled signage, to unintentionally suggestive images, these photos will make you shake your head and say, “That’s unfortunate.”

One elementary school teacher has a name that is less than ideal for teaching young children, while a high school teacher’s name is equally unfortunate for teaching teenagers. An employee at a company with initial-only last name tags is also feeling the effects of an unfortunate name, and a worker at an Apple Store may want to consider a name change. An author and illustrator with a less than favorable name choice and a Republican with a name that is a bit too on the nose round out the list of unfortunate monikers.

A sticker on a Beatles biography entitled “The Longest Cocktail Party” gives the wrong impression, while a sticker on a pie box is placed in an unfortunate location. A misspelling changes the meaning of a sign, and an innocuous photo of a dog and cat looks wildly inappropriate. A billboard for a soccer team obscured by shrubbery looks X-rated, and a photo of Ghostbusters legend Ernie Hudson appears to be of a more intimate nature than intended.

Additional unfortunate names include an American military hero with a name that reminds some of a particular item sold at a headshop, a man who could have avoided teasing by going by a different name, and a doctor with a particularly challenging last name. A seam on a Pokémon toy looks like it needs pants, a Canadian postal code is blush-inducing, and an unintentionally X-rated map could make you blush even more. A ticket cutting off a movie title inspires imagined porno parodies, and a donut shop sign inadvertently brings up uncomfortable imagery.

An unfortunate parking mishap results in an SUV backing off a parking ledge onto a state law enforcement vehicle, while an art contest logo design raises eyebrows. A newspaper typo under a photo of Sesame Street characters unfairly targets The Count, and a typo on a sign does not bode well for the schools it represents. A juxtaposition of CNN headlines implies Serena Williams has declared war on North Korea, and a sticker turns talcum powder into something else entirely. A miscommunication results in a Harry Potter cake missing its intended symbol, and a sign malfunction makes it seem like a store is insulting its customers. A questionable chandelier choice and a car named “Partner Fap” round out the collection of unfortunate moments captured in these photos.
